The Best Fitness App · Last updated 4 October 2026
This policy explains what The Best Fitness App collects, why, who it is shared with, and how you can get it back or delete it. It covers the iOS app and the services that run behind it.
Matt Brown Fitness (“we”) operates this app and is the controller of the data described here. For any privacy question, or to exercise any right below, contact mattbrowntheemail@gmail.com.
| Account | Your name, email address, and a password (or an Apple / Google sign-in identifier if you use those). A profile photo and bio if you add them. If you join the community, your profile photo is shown there next to your community name; your account bio is not. |
|---|---|
| Health & fitness | What you log in the app: food and macros, body weight, workouts and heart-rate sessions, GPS routes from tracked activities, water intake, medications and doses, menstrual-cycle entries, and any DEXA scan or bloodwork report you upload. |
| Apple Health | Only if you turn it on: steps, active energy, exercise minutes, heart rate and body weight read from Apple Health, and workouts, weight, nutrition and heart-rate sessions written back to it. |
| Photos | Photos you choose to take or upload: food photos for macro estimation, progress photos, a profile picture, and scan or lab documents. |
| Signed acknowledgement | The assumption-of-risk acknowledgement you sign to finish signup: the name you type as your signature, the date and time, your email and phone number if you gave one, your confirmation that you are 18 or older, and a copy of the exact wording you agreed to. You can re-read it at any time under SITE then Disclosures. |
| Coach conversations | The messages you send to the in-app AI coach and its replies. |
| Community | Only if you join the community: your community name, bio and links, and whether your posts are public or private; the posts, photos, videos, comments and likes you make; your friend requests and friends, and the sharing switches you set for each friend; your chats; the friend summaries and stat drops described under Who can see your data; your community notification switches; reports you file, and the members you block or mute; and when you accepted the community rules, confirmed you are 18 or older and agreed to share with friends. |
| Device | Basic technical information needed to run the app, plus a push-notification token and your app language if you enable notifications. If you join the community, the same token also delivers community notifications. If the app closes unexpectedly or hits an error, it saves the error details (the error message, the app version, your device's operating system and the time) and sends them to our support inbox the next time you sign in, linked to your account, so we can fix the problem. We do not send analytics data off your device. |
We do not collect precise location in the background unless a GPS activity is actively recording, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. Photos and videos you post in the community are saved again on your phone, without the location where they were taken, before they are uploaded. If a photo or video can’t be prepared that way, it is not posted.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with data brokers. We do not use it for advertising, and there is no advertising in the app.
Health data is never used for marketing, advertising, or any use-based data mining other than improving your own experience in the app, and it is never shared with third parties for advertising.
Apple Health access is entirely optional and off until you grant it. You choose which categories to share, and you can withdraw access at any time in the iOS Settings app under Privacy & Security → Health. Data read from Apple Health is used only to show you a combined view of your training and recovery inside the app. It is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with third parties for their own purposes. Nothing read from Apple Health is shown to your friends in the community: friend summaries use only what you log in the app.
You. Everything you log belongs to you. No other member of the app can read your logs, uploads or health data, and no member can read another member’s. The one exception is what you choose to show in the community, described next.
Other members, only if you join the community. The community is optional and off until you join it from the COMMUNITY tab (in versions of the app that have one). Members who have not joined see nothing of it, and nothing of yours. If you join:
The operator. The operator of this app can access your account, including your training log, your health data (body-composition scans, bloodwork, medications and cycle entries), any progress photos you save, and your conversations with the AI coach (saved from 29 September 2026 on), in order to provide coaching and to investigate support requests. This access does not depend on the Coach Access switches described below, or on the community’s friend switches. If you would rather the operator did not hold this data, you can delete your account, and everything in it, from inside the app at any time. That covers everything the operator holds. On iPhone it does not cover what the app has already written into Apple Health, which is held by the Health app rather than by us: those samples stay on your device until you remove them from inside Health.
Trainers. A trainer appointed by the operator can see your health data only if you switch it on. Two independent controls live in Settings, under Coach Access:
Both are off unless you turn them on, and either can be turned off again at any time. Only the operator can appoint a trainer. Progress photos are never shared with a trainer, whatever these switches say.
We use a small number of service providers. They process data only to deliver their service to us, under their own security and privacy commitments.
| Google Firebase | Account sign-in, database, file storage, and the server functions that run the app. Your logs and uploads are stored here. |
|---|---|
| Anthropic | Powers the AI coach, food-photo macro estimation, and structured extraction from DEXA scans and bloodwork reports you upload. The message, photo, or PDF you send is transmitted for processing and a reply is returned. Anthropic’s API does not retain it or use it to train models. |
| ElevenLabs | Turns the coach’s written reply into speech, only when you have voice enabled. |
| USDA FoodData Central & Open Food Facts | Public food and nutrition databases used for food search and barcode lookup. We send the search term or barcode, not your identity. |
| U.S. National Library of Medicine (RxNav) | Public medication reference used for prescription and OTC drug search. We send the search term, not your identity. |
| Resend | Delivers transactional email, and the email the operator receives for each community report, which includes the reported content (for a reported chat, the reported member’s last 20 messages in it). |
| Apple / Expo | Push notification delivery, if you enable notifications. A community notification carries the sender’s community name and, for a message, its first line (about 120 characters). |
Some of these providers operate in the United States, so your data may be processed there.
When you speak to the coach, your speech is transcribed on your device; the audio recording is not uploaded or stored by us. The resulting text is handled the same as a typed message.
We keep your data for as long as your account exists, because the app’s purpose is to show you your history over time. If you delete your account, we delete your account record and the health, nutrition, training and upload data associated with it. Deletion cascades; it cannot be undone, and we cannot restore it afterwards. Backups and server logs may retain copies for a short period before they age out.
For the community: if you leave it, your community profile, posts, comments, likes, chats and friendships are hidden from everyone, not deleted, and they come back if you join again. If we ban you from the community, your community account and everything attached to it (profile, posts, photos and videos, comments, likes, friends and friend summaries, chats) are deleted; your app account and training data are not affected. Deleting your account deletes your community content too, including your chats, for the other member as well. Reports are kept: a report you filed stays, without your name, after you delete your account, and a report about you stays with the copy of the reported content saved with it.
If you are in the EEA or UK, our legal bases are performing our contract with you (running the app), your consent (Apple Health, location, notifications, and showing friends the health summaries you leave switched on, which you give with the tick box when you join and can withdraw for any friend with their switches), and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure. You may object, request restriction or portability, or complain to your local supervisory authority.
If you are a California resident, we do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising any right above.
You accept these guidelines when you create an account, and continued use of the app is ongoing acceptance of them.
The Best Fitness App has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behavior. You agree not to submit content that is harassing, hateful, threatening, sexually explicit, violent, or impersonating, including in the free-text fields you can write into your own record, such as your display name, profile details, food and medication notes, and messages to the AI coach or to support.
Outside the community, nothing you write can be seen by other members. The community, where members who join can post, comment and chat, is optional. To join, you confirm you are 18 or older and accept the community rules, which the join screen shows in full. Every post, comment, profile and chat in the community has a Report option in its ••• menu, and you can block or mute any member.
To enforce these guidelines we may remove violating content and permanently disable accounts that breach them, and we can ban members from the community. Report a concern from the ••• menu in the app, or to mattbrowntheemail@gmail.com, and we will review it within 24 hours.
The AI coach is a fitness character, not a person, and not a doctor, therapist or dietitian. It will refuse to give dosing or protocols for prescription medication, hormones or peptides, and will not coach disordered eating. For medical, dietary or mental-health advice, talk to a qualified professional.
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored on Google Cloud infrastructure. Access rules are enforced server-side: another ordinary user of the app cannot read your logs, uploads or health data. The only exception is what you choose to show in the community: your community profile and posts, your chats (to the member you chat with) and the friend summaries you leave switched on.
Two roles see more than an ordinary member, and they are not the same. The operator of the app can access your account and your health data, as described under Who can see your data; that access does not depend on the sharing switches. A delegated administrator is a different thing: they can see your account record, your training history and your personal records, and they can never see your scans, blood panels, medications, cycle entries or progress photos, whatever your sharing switches say. If you join the community, a delegated administrator can also see your community profile, your posts (private ones included) and comments, your friends and friend requests with your sharing switches, and the members you block; never your chats or your friend summaries. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
The app is for adults. Signing up requires confirming that you are 18 or older, and joining the community asks again. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
The app records and summarizes information you provide. Reference ranges, calculated targets and coach responses are general guidance, not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Always consult a licensed clinician about your health, and never disregard professional advice because of something you read in this app.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, for material changes, notify you in the app or with a notification.
